What to Wear to your Maternity Photography Session?
My clients often ask me what they should wear to their maternity photography session. I thought I would write a short blog post about it which you might find helpful.
Deciding on what to wear to a photography session can be tricky at the best of times, but when you’ve got a bump, it becomes a whole different ball game.
I recommend to keep it simple, and wear something that makes you feel good and comfortable.
Maternity nudes are the most popular portraits I photograph at my studio. Most mum-to-be choose to have their maternity photography session with me as this is THE maternity portrait I am best known for. I never tire of capturing bare bellies and make sure each bump is lit in a flattering manner to ensure you look amazing!
Fitted Clothing Works Best
I love photographing expectant mums in clothing which shows off their bump! If you haven't got any suitable dresses, tops or leggings, fear not, I have a lovely selection of flattering items of clothing you'll look great in.
Another way to get round not having any fitted clothing for your session is to bring matching underwear with you. Perfect for those not quite brave enough to bear all for a maternity nude.
Wear Solid Colours
While patterns might look good in real life, photographing them can be a little trickier, especially when they are bending around a bump. Solid colours make your bump stand out more, and also help bring focus to it.
When it comes to choosing colours, stick to neutrals and earthy colours - cream, soft greys to charcoal, light blues and pinks, earthy pinks and reds, navy and khaki all work well together.
Stripes and block patterns are best avoided as they camouflage your bump.
