Baby Milestone Photography London
Your baby's first year is filled with incredible changes, and every stage deserves to be remembered. From sleepy newborn cuddles and first smiles to sitting confidently, crawling and celebrating a first birthday, each milestone captures a unique chapter in your baby's development. This guide explains the best ages for baby milestone photography, what to expect from each type of session, and how to choose the perfect time to create beautiful portraits you'll treasure for years to come.
Newborn Photography
0–3 Weeks
The first few weeks with your newborn are a beautiful blur of tiny fingers, sleepy cuddles and overwhelming love. Although life has changed overnight, these precious early days pass incredibly quickly, making it the perfect time to preserve memories you'll treasure forever.
For parents hoping to capture those classic newborn portraits, the first two to three weeks are usually ideal. During this stage, babies are often sleepier, naturally curl into those beautiful newborn poses, and are more likely to settle comfortably throughout the session.
Your newborn photography session is designed to capture the love and connection within your growing family, including:
Individual portraits of your baby, both peacefully asleep and awake.
Mum and baby portraits.
Dad and baby portraits.
Family photographs, including siblings if you have them.
My approach to newborn photography is natural, relaxed and completely baby-led. All newborn sessions take place in the comfort of your London home, allowing you and your baby to remain in familiar surroundings. Using the beautiful natural light in your home, I create timeless portraits that reflect your family's genuine connection, without elaborate props or forced poses.
Newborn sessions are unhurried, giving plenty of time for feeding, changing, cuddles and settling your baby. There is never any pressure to keep to a strict schedule, ensuring a calm and enjoyable experience while capturing this extraordinary chapter of your family's story.
30 Days Old Milestone
Your precious bundle is growing at a rapid rate and they are beginning to fill out by now. At this age, your baby will be more awake and more interested in their surroundings. Their eyes are now much clearer and they will be able to focus for short periods of time. Great for those shots where your baby is looking straight at my camera.
Your baby is more likely to stay awake for most of their session although if we are lucky, we might get a small window of opportunity to even capture a sleeping pose or two. I am ever the optimist!
Thirty-day milestone as well as one hundred-day sessions are particularly popular with families from Asian cultures.
100 Days Old Baby Milestone
100th day after a child's birth is a significant milestone and is very popular with families from Asian countries. It is such a lovely age to capture. Smiles are much more frequent and your little one is becoming more inquisitive by the day. They will really be starting to develop their little personality, and this is a great time to capture cheeky expressions. They should be able to grab their feet and put them in their mouth (my favourite shot).
You may even get a few giggles!
This stage is great for capturing:
Baby over dad’s shoulder’s shot
Intimate mum and baby portraits
Tummy-time pose
Smiling photos of your baby
What to wear to your family photoshoot:
Some families like to dress their babies in a cute outfit for the photo session at this age. I would recommend clothes that stretch, fit snugly and are comfortable for your baby. As lovely as shirts, dresses or dungarees look on a hanger, they never sit quite right when your baby is lying down or is held in your arms. The clothing tends to scrunch up which leaves up us having to concentrate on it too much instead of having fun.
Top tips:
Lay all your clothing out on the bad to ensure it all matches and each outfit compliments each other
Try out your baby’s outfit before the session to ensure it fits snugly

Almost a Toddler
6 to 8 Months
Fun, giggles and laughter in a fast paced session.
At this age your little one is likely to be sitting unaided for short periods of time and very likely to begin to crawl,
This is a wonderful age to capture, smiles and giggles. Babies tend to be relatively content at this age as long as they’re well rested and fed. We can add baby bath photographs right at the end of the photoshoot with some cute bubbles. Don’t forget to bring a towel to dry your little one off.
These baby photography sessions are fast paced and a lot of fun.
How much time should I allow for my baby milestone photoshoot?
Around an hour is the perfect amount of time for a family photography session at my studio.
I would suggest mornings are usually the best time or after your baby had it’s afternoon nap. We can always start photographing early in the day to ensure your little one at their happiest.
