When Is the Best Age for Baby Photography?
Your baby changes so quickly during their first year. Before you know it, that tiny newborn who spent most of the day sleeping is making eye contact, smiling, grabbing their feet and showing you more of their personality every day.
I love photographing babies as they grow. Every stage brings something different, from those first lovely smiles to the giggles, curious expressions and cheeky little characters that emerge as they get older.
If you've missed the newborn stage, or simply want to capture your baby's next chapter, a baby milestone photoshoot is a wonderful way to preserve these fleeting moments.
Baby Photography After the Newborn Stage: What Changes?
Every stage brings something different, so it depends on the expressions and milestones you'd most love to remember. Perhaps it's those first smiles, some tummy-time portraits, your baby sitting up unaided, crawling or even taking their first steps. Smiling portraits showing off those first little teeth are popular too, although they can sometimes come with a little extra teething dribble!
Around one month old
Your baby is becoming more alert, and we may capture some lovely wide-eyed expressions as they begin to take in the world around them.

Around three to four months
Smiles become more frequent, your baby is increasingly responsive, and you may start to see those first hints of their emerging personality. It's a lovely age for portraits with parents, too.

It’s best to have a session first thing in the morning or after an afternoon nap time.
Around six to eight months
This is one of my favourite stages to photograph. Many babies are beginning to sit with support or sit independently, and their expressions can be wonderfully animated. We can capture smiles, curious looks, tiny hands reaching for their toes and all those little details you'll want to remember. Below is an example of the style of images we can capture in around 45 minutes.
As your baby approaches their first birthday
Your little one may be sitting confidently, crawling or beginning to explore their surroundings. These sessions can be full of personality, movement and fun.
Every baby develops at their own pace, so we can plan your session around your child's age, personality and stage of development.

When Is the Best Time to Book Your Baby Photoshoot?
It's best to schedule your baby's session first thing in the morning or after their afternoon nap, when they're likely to be rested and happy. Every baby has their own routine, so we'll choose a time that works best for your little one.
If possible, try to avoid booking around your baby's usual nap or feeding time. A well-rested baby is more likely to be comfortable and engaged, helping us make the most of our one-hour session.
Of course, babies don't always follow a plan, and that's perfectly fine. I'll keep the session relaxed and work around your baby's mood to capture their lovely expressions and emerging personality.
Capturing Your Baby’s Next Chapter
Your baby changes so quickly, and each stage brings something new to remember. Whether you’re planning a relaxed newborn session at home or would love to capture those first smiles, sitting-up portraits and cheeky little grins, I’d love to help you preserve these precious moments.
