Newborn Photography at Home in London — What to Expect
The first days and weeks with a new baby are extraordinary. They're also exhausting, emotional, and often not the moment you feel like bundling everyone into a car and navigating across London to a studio. That's exactly why I offer newborn photography at home — so you don't have to.
I come to you, wherever you are in London, and create beautiful, timeless newborn portraits in the comfort and warmth of your own home.
Why Choose an At-Home Newborn Photoshoot?
There's a particular kind of magic in home newborn sessions that a studio simply can't replicate. Your home tells your story. The light through your bedroom window, the chair where you've spent every night feeding, the soft blankets already folded in the corner — these things become part of the portraits, and they make the photographs feel deeply personal in a way that studio images rarely do.
For many London families, it's also simply the more practical choice. After a difficult birth, a c-section, or weeks of broken sleep, the idea of travelling across the city with a newborn, a hospital bag, and everything else is genuinely daunting. I've had lovely couples arrive at my studio having somehow left the baby's entire bag of clothing at home — and while we always made it work (newborns look wonderful in nothing but a soft wrap), it's a stress nobody needs in those early weeks.
At-home sessions remove all of that. I arrive, I set up quietly, and we work at your pace in a space where you feel completely at ease.
What Happens During an At-Home Newborn Session?
I bring everything we need — professional portable studio lighting, a beanbag for the classic newborn poses, wraps, and props. All I need from you is a reasonable amount of space in your living room or bedroom to set up, and good natural light is always a bonus if you have it.
Sessions can draw on a mix of approaches depending on what you love. I can work with my portable studio lights for that clean, beautifully lit look, or lean entirely into natural window light for a softer, more lifestyle feel. Black-and-white conversions work particularly well in home sessions — there's something about stripping back the colour that brings out the texture of a tiny hand, the curve of a sleeping cheek, and the quiet intimacy of those first days in a way that feels timeless.
I'll guide you gently through everything — you won't need to know any poses or preparation beyond having the kettle on.
When Is the Best Time to Book a Newborn Session?
The ideal time for newborn photography is within the first 14 days of your baby arriving — ideally days 5 to 12. Babies at this age sleep deeply and curl naturally into the beautiful compact poses that make newborn portraits so special. The bigger the baby (over 4kg), the sooner you should aim to book, as larger babies tend to unfurl from that newborn curl quickly.
I'd recommend booking your session while you're still pregnant so the date is secured, knowing we can adjust once your baby has arrived safely. For twins or larger babies, we'd typically aim to shoot a little earlier.
What Areas of London Do You Cover?
I travel to clients across London for home newborn sessions. Whether you're in Chiswick, Kensington, Chelsea, Fulham, Clapham, Richmond, Islington, or beyond — get in touch and we'll work out the logistics together.
What About Hair and Make-Up?
Entirely your call. Some new mums love having a professional touch before the camera comes out; others prefer to look exactly as they are — real, tired, and wonderfully in love. Both make for beautiful portraits.
