What's Included in Your Maternity Photography Session with Nemi
Booking a maternity photoshoot is an exciting step, and I want you to feel completely at ease before you ever set foot in the studio. So here's a clear, honest guide to everything that's included when you book a session with me — from the moment you get in touch to the portraits you'll keep for a lifetime.
A Private, Purpose-Built Studio in West London
Your session takes place at my dedicated photography studio in Chiswick, West London — a beautiful warehouse space with soaring ceilings, pitched skylights, and a naturally industrial character that makes for genuinely stunning portraits. It's a private space, reserved entirely for you for the duration of your shoot. There are no other clients, no waiting room awkwardness, just a calm, unhurried environment designed entirely around you.
Weekend and Weekday Appointments
Maternity photoshoots are available on weekends and selected weekdays, so there's flexibility whether you're working around a job, other children, or simply a very unpredictable third trimester. Get in touch and we'll find a time that suits you perfectly.
Expert Posing Guidance — No Experience Needed
You won't need to know a single thing about posing. From the moment we begin shooting, I'll guide you gently and naturally into positions that are flattering, comfortable, and genuinely beautiful. After more than twenty years photographing pregnant women, I know how to make every body shape look its absolute best — and how to make you feel relaxed while we do it.
Creative Studio Lighting for Artistic, Timeless Portraits
All sessions are shot using professional studio lighting that I tailor specifically to you. Whether you're drawn to soft, natural-feeling light or something bolder and more dramatic, I shape the light around your bump and your vision to create portraits that feel genuinely artistic rather than simply pretty.
Colour and Black-and-White Processing
Every portrait is delivered in both colour and black-and-white. The black-and-white conversions in particular tend to become firm favourites — there's something about removing colour that brings out the form, the light, and the emotion of a pregnancy portrait in a way that feels truly timeless.
Professional Retouching
All images are carefully retouched by hand. This isn't heavy-handed editing — it's the kind of subtle, skilled work that simply ensures you look your most polished and confident self. Skin is smoothed where needed, and the overall feel of each image is refined before it ever reaches you.
A Personal Viewing and Ordering Appointment
Once your images are ready, we'll arrange a viewing appointment via a video call (Teams or similar), where I'll share my screen and walk you through your portraits together. This is one of my favourite parts of the process — seeing your reaction when you view your images for the first time.
During the viewing I'll help you identify your absolute favourites, suggest which portraits work beautifully as pairs or triptychs, and advise on how images might look framed or as part of a folio box. There's no pressure — it's simply a helpful, personal conversation about which portraits you want to keep.
A Note on Session Length
Sessions typically run from one to three hours depending on the package you choose. Smaller collections of three to five portraits take around an hour, while larger collections of thirty or more allow up to three hours in the studio. Everything is relaxed and unhurried — we take breaks when you need them, and I'll always work at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Hair and Make-Up
Professional hair and make-up isn't included in your session, but I can recommend a wonderful local studio to visit beforehand if you'd like that extra confidence boost. My honest advice: if you're used to wearing make-up, go for it — just make sure to give clear instructions so you feel like yourself. If you prefer a more natural look, that works beautifully too.
