FAQ about maternity sessions

When is the best time to book a maternity photoshoot?

The ideal time is between 28 and 36 weeks of pregnancy (7th to 8th month). During this period, your baby bump is beautifully pronounced, and you’re typically still comfortable moving around.

How long is a pregnancy photoshoot?

Maternity photography sessions at my studio take between 1 to 2 hours - all depends on the style of images you would like me to capture for you.

Do you offer outdoor maternity photography?

I do not offer outdoor photoshoots as I feel a maternity photo shoot is all about capturing the beautiful shape of your body with artistic lighting.

Can I purchase digital files?

Yes, maternity photoshoot collections start from 3 images and go up to 50 (or more).  Newborn photography packages start at 10 images. Your beautiful photographs will be presented in colour, as well as in black and white, in high resolution (great for printing) and in low resolution (perfect for sending via emails or for social network sites).

Do you photograph on weekends?

Yes, I offer photoshoots on weekdays as well as on weekends.

How should I prepare for the photoshoot?

  • Skincare : Moisturise your skin, especially your belly, to avoid dryness.

  • Hair & Makeup: Consider professional make-up or styling for a polished look.

  • Nails: Ensure your nails are clean or manicured, as hands are often featured in poses.

What if I’m feeling self-conscious about my body?

As an experienced photographer I’ll gently pose you and use creative lighting to flatter your body and highlight your glow.

Can I request specific poses or inspirations?

Yes! Please share inspiration photos or ideas (e.g., Pinterest boards) as I want your session to reflect your personality.

What should I wear for a maternity photoshoot?

Choose outfits that highlight your bump, such as form-fitting dresses. Neutral colours, pastels, or bold jewel tones photograph well. Do bring 2–4 outfit options for variety.

How much does it cost?

Digital collections for maternity photoshoots start at £750. Newborn photography sessions take place at your home and are offered as a complete package with a 20 portraits and a 12x10 inch professionally designed hardback photobook. These start at £2400. There is a £400 discount off your newborn session if you have a maternity session with me.

What is included in airbrushing of my images?

I work with professional retouchers and your images will be airbrushed in as natural a style as possible which will match the images seen on my website.

Skin will be slightly smoothed, any spots removed, teeth whitened and a light 'nip and tuck' of double chins or other parts of the body is offered.

Additional airbrushing such as fixing of tan lines, drastic slimming, and removal of tattoos is available at an extra cost.

Price will be quoted per each job of additional airbrushing requested outside of my normal work.

Unedited/Unretouched Images

Sometimes I get asked if clients can purchase unedited images for a reduced price. Please note that the talent lies in capturing the images rather than the retouching. Your images will stunning straight out of my camera and no discounts will be offered on unedited images.

All about newborn photoshoots

My baby is already here, can I still book a session?

Absolutely - please give me a ring on 07740866964 and we can discuss what style of newborn portraits I can capture for you.

How do I keep my baby calm during a newborn photo shoot?

  • Let’s make sure baby is fed and burped

  • The studio or your home should be nice and warm

  • Using white noise to help settle your baby(I have an app)

  • A dummy/soother/pacifier can help too

  • Best of all: hand your baby over to me - I have been called a baby whisperer many times before!

What should our baby wear?

Babies look the cutest in soft, pastel-coloured outfits that keep the focus on their natural beauty. I especially love simple pieces that show off their tiny arms and legs. A white short-sleeve bodysuit is a timeless choice and photographs beautifully. If you have a special outfit or sentimental item, feel free to bring it along too – we can always include it in a few photos.

Will you be posing baby?

I always pose newborn babies so they look cosy and have their limbs gently placed to look relaxed. On the other hand, natural poses are always wonderful to capture too and so many times I have heard delighted parents exclaim, “…that is how they always sleep!” or “…that’s how they had their hands in the ultrasound photos!” I feel this is a win, win scenario and you receive a great selection of posed, as well as, natural baby portraits.

Should I feed my baby before the session?

If you have a routine in place please feed your baby as normal ahead of the session. Most newborns will require feeding at some point during their photoshoot so do bring their milk or feel free to breastfeed in my studio.

How do I choose my images after my photoshoot?

You select your favourite images from your session via a Teams meeting where I share my screen with you. I have a great program which makes the selection process a walk in the park. Clients love the ease with which they can choose their portraits and see the images laid out as potential wall groupings. It’s best to allow between 30 minutes to an hour to select your favourite images from your photoshoot.

Ready to capture your baby's first days?

Newborns grow and change so quickly, and those tiny details are only this small for a short time. If you’d love timeless photographs of your little one’s earliest days, I’d be honoured to capture them for you.
