When Is The Best Time To Book a Maternity Photoshoot?

Feeling unsure about when to have a Maternity Photoshoot?

I will explain the process and detail so you feel confident and comfortable when booking your maternity photography session!

Finding out you are expecting a baby and watching your body change as your little one grows inside you is a magical experience. As your belly gets bigger so does the excitement you feel as your due date approaches. Pretty soon, you will be preparing to welcome your little one into the world. You’ll be buying cute little outfits, setting up the nursery and packing your hospital bag (pack a few large bottles of water as hospitals are generally overheated and giving birth is hard work!). In an instant, your whole life will be all about this little person and you will be understandably consumed by the newborn bubble.

So, wouldn’t it be nice to celebrate your body and own the spotlight before your life makes a 360-degree turn? Well, you can do exactly that by having your maternity portraits captured before your baby arrives. A maternity photography session is a great way to document your journey into motherhood. Through your maternity photos, you can show how incredible your body is and what it is capable of. More importantly, these photos capture such a special moment in your life, allowing you to look back and enjoy them in the future.

I have been taking photos of mums-to-be for many years now and you might have gathered by now that it is my absolute passion. All you have to do is contact me to ask any questions you may have and to schedule your maternity photoshoot!

So when is the best time to have your maternity photoshoot?

Here are a few tips on choosing the right time to show off your pregnancy bump.

When should you have your bump photo shoot?

I feel the best time for maternity pictures is when your belly is nice and round, and are still feeling comfortable. In most cases this is sometime in your 7th or 8th month of pregnancy or between 28-34 weeks. During this time, you will have a fairly sizeable bump and your baby will not have dropped down too far yet.

The start of your third trimester is the perfect time for a maternity photoshoot. If you decide to schedule your photos sooner, just consider the size of your belly and if you are happy with it’s roundness. On the other hand, if it's a last minute decision which is close to your due date and you don't want to miss out on capturing beautiful maternity portraits, then go for it! Many mums-to-be have a petite bump and can look only about six months pregnant even close to the end of their pregnancy. Lastly, be mindful that babies sometimes can make an unexpected early arrival.

When to book maternity photos if you are expecting twins or multiples

I suggest you schedule your maternity photoshoot much earlier. Around your second trimester or at 20-24 weeks of pregnancy. Your baby bump will be well established by then and you should still be feeling good, as well as comfortable.

I hope this blog post has been helpful in deciding when to have your own maternity photographs taken.
